Why and how I decided to start blogging about creating an own website

Why and how this journey started?

Over ten years I have had a normal career, working normal 9am to 5pm hours. Despite having a decent career I have always wanted to have something that would my "own thing".

I guess over the years I have managed to put this though on the side as I have been able travel and enjoy my life by seeing other countries and cultures. I have always a passion for travelling and seeing other countries and trying different foods etc.

in 2019, my life changed as I got my first child. My life changed a lot, I wasn't able to travel as much I have been doing in that past. Then in 2020, whole world stopped due to the pandemic. There wasn't possibility to travel at all. Before world started to open again in 2022, I became a father second time in 2021.

In my country it is normal that also dads will take a paternity leave as well and I have had that luxury to stay home with both of kids. With first one, I stayed at home for five months. With second one I stayed at home nine months.

In September 2023, my paternity leave was over and I was back to same old job that payed me a decent salary and my workload was not too heavy. I couldn't travel as much I would have wanted, but I started to think again that I would like to do something that is my own thing. Unfortunately, as my background is in business administration I did really feel that I would have some special skills.

I started doing research ways to make some extra income. Social media seems to be full of accounts that are showing ways to make extra income. I started doing research about those things and they were not as lucrative as those social media accounts made them sound like.

Best ones were promising 1k to 5k USD per day, I mean it sounds too good to be true? as we know if something sounds too good to be true then it is too good to be true. Did some research and I kind of figured that something is smelling like a good ol' ponzi scheme.

Desire and decision

I had been watching those accounts from social media selling their ideas to people. Most of it was nonsense, but there was some small things here and there that I felt like that could be useful.

I started doing more research on affiliate marketing, google adsense etc.

I knew that showing my face in videos wasn't my thing. So I could not be influencer in youtube, instagram or tiktik. Those just wasn't my thing.

I had my passion for travelling, and I started to think that maybe I could do something around it. I'm active on certain forums, but mainly reading not writing as much. But in forum's you can't really make any extra income.

Then at some point I kind of figured that maybe I could have my own website. There was just one massive problem I had no idea how to create one. Closest to that I got back in 2008 when I spent a year abroad studying and I managed to keep a blog maybe two or three months. Of course, I couldn't remember anything what platform I had used etc.

So I started doing some research how to could I learn to make a website. And that is the starting point of this journey.

In the coming post I'm writing how the journey continues, if I will learn to make a website or I guess it would 50% blog, but anyway.
